Ever since I learned Erlang last year to work on a correlation engine here at Mochi I've decided that it's probably a good idea to try and learn a new programming language or concept every year. This year I decided to take a look at Scala. There's considerable buzz around it right now because of Twitter deciding to use Scala to implement their message queue instead of Ruby. I'm going to give a talk to our engineering group about Scala on Thursday, April 9, 2009 so this will help me get my thoughts together. Here goes.

Journalism education finds its ICONN

I'm in Knoxville, TN this weekend for the founding conference of the Inter-Collegiate Online News Network. Jim Stovall, the University of Tennessee professor that started The Tennessee Journalist, has sprung the trap on a number of colleges and new media geeks to provide direction and support to the next big thing in journalism education.
